An achievement for the women’s team, led by Andrea Sonsin: The Italians defeated their host, Spain, the world champion, 3-2, in a match held within the fifth day of the European Nations League. In Pontevedra, in front of more than 10,000 spectators, Spain took the lead in the 12th minute against Athens, then Italy started strongly in the first 20 minutes of the second half, scoring three goals with Giacinti in the 46th minute, Cambiaggi in the 57th minute, and Linari in the 64th minute. In the final match, Spain tied 3-2 in the 76th minute through Esther, but the Italians resisted until the final whistle. In the standings, Italy’s tally rises to 7 points, and the next match will be held on Tuesday in Parma against Switzerland.
