Belarus says mercenaries from the Wagner Group are training Belarusian soldiers

The Belarusian Ministry of Defense posted a video on its channel on Friday cable In which he said that the mercenaries of the Wagner Group, who until a few weeks ago were fighting in Ukraine with the Russian army, will be in Ukraine and will train Belarusian soldiers.

After the failed armed uprising on June 24, according to an agreement brokered by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, the head of the Wagner Group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, and his men were supposed to move to Belarus: on July 6, Lukashenko said that Prigozhin would move to Belarus. Not in Belarus but in Russia, and that the mercenaries of the Wagner Group would instead be in their camps in areas occupied by the Russian army in eastern Ukraine.

According to the Belarusian Ministry of Defense, mercenaries of the Wagner Group are allegedly located at a military base in Asipovichi, about 90 kilometers from the country’s capital, Minsk. There is currently no independent confirmation of the data of the Belarusian Ministry.

Meanwhile, today in an interview with the Russian newspaper KommersantRussian President Vladimir Putin said he suggested to Prigozhin that the Wagner Group be allowed to join the Russian regular army. Prigozhin reportedly refused the offer.
