Staff profile: Jaci John

As the lead official performs the jump ball to begin the women’s basketball game in the Pinnacle Bank Arena, Jaci John looks on intensely as she adjusts the settings of her digital camera.

A videographer for HuskerVision, the production team for University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s (UNL) athletic department, John does not want to miss any shot in this thrilling game against Penn State.

John has been playing sports since the tender age of five and grew up playing soccer.Jaci_forweb

Being a broadcasting and journalism major, her love for sports spills over in her career goals: she’d like to work at ESPN or FoxSports after graduation.

But that is not all. Friends who first knew John were often pleasantly surprised at her bilingual skills. She’s fluent in Spanish – even though she has no Spanish roots.

John grew up in Indianapolis, where she received her kindergarten education in Spanish and decided to pursue her passion for the language when she entered college.

The sophomore also enjoys spending her time watching comedy movies with her friends at the Gamma Phi Beta sorority in school.

From her active involvement in school to her decision to pursue Spanish, John knows what she wants to accomplish in life.

“I want to travel and give back to others if I can. But first, I want to complete my degree.”
