court Albanian House arrest order for the former Prime Minister Sally BerishaLeader of the opposition Democratic Party, is under investigation on corruption charges. The decision was taken by Judge Irina Giocca of the Special Court on Corruption and Organized Crime, which deals with cases involving senior officials and politicians. Giocca accepted the prosecution's request to place Berisha (79 years old) under house arrest after he violated previous restrictive measures to appear every two weeks. He was also banned from traveling abroad. His lawyer, Cenk Geokotaj, announced that an appeal would be filed. The lawyer explained that the court also prohibited Berisha from communicating with people other than the family members living with him.
It was Sali Berisha himself, or rather his party, that put the wrench in the works of the agreement between them Italy and Albania To manage migration flows. In fact, the Constitutional Court in Tirana suspended approval procedures for the protocol to build an Italian migrant center on the Albanian coast, after an appeal by 30 opposition parliamentarians. “There are aspects of unconstitutionality – wrote the representatives of the Democratic Party, the party of the former president and prime minister, the current parliamentarian, Sally Berisha – and the agreement contradicts the international agreements to which our country is committed.” Now Berisha will have to deal with Albanian justice.
