The Church of Superga, the Pyramid of Monviso, and the Crescent of the Moon, all in a row, at sunset, one behind the other: “Apod Image of the Day” (Astronomy Image of the Day), a recognition awarded by NASA, arrives from Turin and from Michigan Technological University ( MTU), on December 25. The author is photographer Valerio Minato. He wrote on his Facebook page: “The most beautiful gift, an overwhelming joy.”
On the Internet address that leads to the website “apod.nasa,” the image is titled “Cathedral, Mountain, Moon” and is accompanied by a long explanatory text: “Single shots like this require planning. The first step is to realize that shots like this can be triply aligned.” Surprise.
The second is to find the best place to photograph. But the third, to be at exactly the right time, with clear skies, is the hardest.” The synchronization of all these elements occurred on December 15 at 6.52 p.m.
In recent days, Minato – who is no stranger to evocative images of the Piedmontese capital – published a film about “behind the scenes”, the stages leading up to the shot, with a call for maximum spread: “Share it if you want to help I want to show that we are surrounded by wonder Even without image montage or artificial intelligence.”
