Interfax reported that the plane Lavrov was on board flew over Greece and not over Bulgaria, as originally planned. Sofia allowed the use of its airspace as long as Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, who is subject to EU sanctions, was not on board.

Bulgaria’s decision not to allow the plane carrying Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, heading to Skopje to attend the OSCE meeting, to pass through its airspace is “ridiculous and stupid.” This was stated by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. TASS reported this. “The evil stupidity of Russophobia has reached such a degree that for the first time in our history, the authorities have banned the flight not of an airplane, but of a person on board,” Zakharova later wrote on her Telegram channel.
