Jack Housenga biography

UNL junior Jack Housenga has a broader perspective than your typical sports fan. Growing up in Geneva, Illinois, a city just west of Chicago, Housenga was raised a Bears, Cubs, and Blackhawks supporter. It wasn’t until college that he decided to broaden his horizons as a sports fan.
“Coming from Chicago, I was really invested in a lot of professional teams,” Housenga said. “I’ve always had a love for sports, but I kind of wanted to dip my toes into college.”
Housenga has been more than just a sports fan at Nebraska. He’s channeled his passion through professional outlets as well.
“I wanted to start my own radio show,” Housenga said. “It’s really cool. Me and another student get to broadcast live on 90.3 KRNU for an hour on Tuesday nights and just talk about Husker sports and national headlines.”
Through outlets like HuskerVision and the College of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Housenga has taken advantage of his opportunities in Lincoln, and he’s confident he made the right choice to prepare him for his career.
“I’ve always wanted to get into sports, just because I couldn’t play them at the college or professional level,” Housenga said. “Here at the J school, they just give you tons of opportunities to do what you want, and that’s why Nebraska has been the perfect place for me.”
