“The Nun 2 dominates the US box office, and Barbie takes fifth place.”

In the United States, fall has arrived, at least according to the box office, giving way to the sparkling pink of Barbie and making way for horror films. The first place in the ranking of the most watched films in cinema was taken by “The Nun 2”, achieving $32.6 million. Warner Bros.’s demonic nun easily bested Denzel Washington, who plays the mysterious protagonist in The Equalizer 3, knocking him out of first place.

In its second weekend of showings, the final chapter of the Antoine Fuqua-directed action thriller grossed more than $12.1 million, for a domestic total of $61.9 million. Worldwide, the sequel distributed by Sony has surpassed $107.7 million.

But in the past three days, a large number of Americans have favored the excitement of director Michael Chavez’s “The Nun 2,” the successful sequel to the horror film that began in 2018 as a spin-off of “The Conjuring” and instantly became a cult film. Although this sequel is impressive, it fails to match the record set by its predecessor, which debuted with $53.8 million in 2018.

In third place in the ranking we find another continuation of the saga that the audience loved so much, but this time it is a comedy. My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3, another weekend release, debuted to $10 million. The film is written and directed by Nia Vardalos, who also stars alongside John Corbett. In North America the film is distributed by Focus Features, while Universal Pictures will take it overseas (it will be released in Italy on October 5).

The Hindi-language thriller Jawan came in fourth place with a total of $6.2 million. The film stars Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who plays father and son.

The movie “Barbie” closes the list of the best shows at the box office in the United States, after dominating since July 21, earning $5.9 million (a total of $620.5 million domestically). Summer is over.
