Zephaniah was a respected poet, and had published various collections since the 1980s. He also wrote many novels and children’s books, in addition to some plays. Eight weeks ago he was diagnosed with a brain tumor.
Born in Birmingham in 1958 to a Barbadian father and Jamaican mother, from the beginning of his career he combined reggae and Caribbean music into his artistic production, devoting himself to Described by poetry, a musical genre in which poems are recited on overdubbed rules, also defined the electronic development of reggae music. Zephaniah was an anti-racism and animal rights activist. He also worked a lot on radio and television.
