There are no tests on Saturday in London for Chittoro Ali. In agreement with the technical staff led by coach Claudio Licciardello, the Albanian has decided not to participate in the 100m at the meeting scheduled in the UK capital. But don’t worry: the native of Como has no physical problems, as planning dictates the choice in Paris.
Ali was very excited and would have liked to be at the start to try to reduce his personal best of 9 inches and 96, but the technicians preferred to keep him away. And so the Albanians continued to sweat and toil in the Castelporziano sports center, with the other athletes of the Fiame Gialli group.
However, it is not yet certain whether he will take part in the test before Saturday, August 3, the day of the Olympic qualifications. Much will also depend on the availability of good-quality competitions. Marcelle Jacobs trained on Saturday and Sunday.
The reigning champion ran the 100m three times in two days, but made little impression, clocking a best time of 10.08. Speaking of time trials, the Olympic order is starting to take shape. The latest entry into the top ranks is South African Benjamin Richardson, who ran in Switzerland at La Chaux-de-Fonds in a meeting also featuring Turatese Ruskin Molinari, in 9:86.
Time is fifth in the seasonal standings, currently ranked 19th. However, the native of Como is moving further up the Olympic list given that athletes such as Cuban Shenyer Regenfo (9’90) and American Christian Coleman (9’83, but off the podium at the Trials) will not be present in Paris. Jamaican Keeshan Thompson leads the rankings with 9’77, two hundredths better than Kenyan Ferdinand Umanyala. He is followed by Jamaican Oblick Sevilla (9:82) and American Noah Lyles (9:83 for world champion).
