Barbara Weinstein, history professor at New York University and president of the American Historical Association, will speak at the sixth annual Carrol L. Pauley Lecture on Thursday in the Nebraska Union Auditorium.
Weinstein's lecture, "Academic Freedom in the Age of Homeland Security," will be followed by a response from Waskar Ari, University of Nebraska-Lincoln professor of history and ethnic studies.
Kenneth Winkle, history professor at UNL, said Ari will provide insight to his own experiences of seeking admission to the U.S.
"Ari is a latin american historian and the history department appointed him as an associate professor in the spring of 2005," Winkle said.
Winkle said Ari's entry into the U.S. was delayed two years but throughout this dilemma, the American Historical Association supported him and UNL history department's request to let him in.
"We're anxious to find out what she'll (Weinstein) say," Winkle said.
