Fan’s dream about the Huskers comes true
As a young boy, Harvey Swanson could only dream about coming to see the Huskers play.
Now Swanson, 46, is veteran fan who has been tailgating at every home game for the past 22 years.
“I have been a fan of the Huskers ever since 1978,” he said. “Ever since I was a kid I grew up listening to the Huskers on the radio dreaming of coming to games, and now I go to them all the time.”
Swanson enjoys the tailgate experience.
“You can’t sit by each other during the game so tailgating allows everybody to get together before and after the game,” he said.
Swanson tailgates in the Haymarket area next to the HopCat, where friends and family join him a couple hours before kick-off. Once the game starts, he heads over to Memorial Stadium.
The Husker alum and his family attend one away game, where he takes his party on the road.
“We have gone to the Minnesota game the last three trips,” Swanson said.Listen
The lifelong Husker fan said he was happy after the firing of Nebraska’s Athletic Director Shawn Eichorst.
“I was pro-firing Eichorst,” he said. “I didn’t really like the way the athletic department was handling coaches so I thought it was a pro.”
Win or lose, Swanson supports the Huskers and plans to tailgate for years to come.
