Lincoln sports bar offers unique Saturday atmosphere

March Madness is right around the corner. Cue the CBS theme song.

John Larsen, owner of the Press Box Sports Bar and Grille in Lincoln, is gearing up for his biggest days of the year.

“The first Thursday and Friday of March Madness have been our busiest days since being open,” Larsen said.

John Larsen owns the “Press Box Sports Bar and Grille” with his wife Jorena.

The Press Box opened in November 2010. Located off 56th Street and Nebraska 2, Larsen and his wife, Jorena, strive to create the perfect sports-watching environment.

“We have a great venue,” Larsen said. “You can see seven games, sitting in one spot.”

The bar and grille features 18 high-definition TVs.

Larsen says Saturdays can be hectic, especially in fall.

“We prefer late morning or early afternoon home (Husker football) games,” Larsen said. “We get a crowd for the game, and another crowd that goes home after.”

The Press Box punch, a mix of Captain Morgan, Peach Schnapps, orange and cranberry juice, is a Saturday favorite.

“We tinkered with different ingredients until we got it,” Larsen said.

Larsen says having every March Madness game available, good food and fair prices are what sets his venue apart from the competition.

“You combine those three factors, I think that’s a great selling point.”

John Larsen sounds like a man who has things figured out. As long as major sporting events keep happening every year, I would imagine a place like this would be in business for quite a while, especially with the crowd they’re able to draw. That, and the Press Box Punch sounds equal parts delicious and dangerous. Thanks for sharing!
