T.J. Henning: Basketball fanatic

The reason T.J. Henning came to Nebraska was one a lot of people share. The Huskers.

But not the helmet wearing, hard hitting team that turns Memorial Stadium into the third largest city in Nebraska on game days.

“I wanted to spend four years in the Red Zone cheering on the basketball team.”

Henning has always loved sports, but his interest in sports journalism began when his high school art teacher asked him to announce their school’s basketball games.

He was hooked.

Since then the senior has called football and basketball games for KRNU radio. Once torn between television and radio he has decided to go the visual route after getting a taste of television sports reporting while interning at Lincoln’s Channel 8 Eyewitness News.

When Henning isn’t watching his favorite player, Kevin Garnett of the Brooklyn Nets, it’s no surprise that he likes to play hoops with his friends. A former cross country and track athlete Henning also enjoys running and music.

As for Henning’s expectations for the Huskers basketball team this year?

“I hope we can make the NIT.”
