Staff profile: Mallory Miller

Mallory Miller, a senior at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, is a journalism major but doesn’t want to be a journalist. Instead, she’d rather move to Florida and work in marketing for the Disney Vacation Club.

“I think families developing a relationship with a brand is a pretty unique thing,” said Miller, a Council Bluffs, Iowa native. “And Disney is kind of the king of branding.”

As a huge Disney fan, she should know. “Hercules” is her favorite animated Disney movie and “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” is her favorite live-action one. But she also has a soft spot for British TV shows like “Doctor Who.”

“I love movies,” she said. “Kind of an unhealthy amount.”

When she was a senior in high school, Miller took a trip to Disney World and, while standing in line, met a guy that said he worked for Disney. She said she couldn’t believe working for Disney could be someone’s job.

But if the Disney internship doesn’t work out, she wants to work in marketing for a non-profit organization.

She now is looking for Disney internships and works part-time as a lifeguard at Fallbrook. During the swim breaks every half hour, however, she studies and watches Netflix with the other lifeguards, she said.

“My Netflix account gets used a lot.”
