Kate Bolz, a Democrat, holds a bachelor’s degree in communication and sociology from Nebraska Wesleyan University. She also has a master’s degree in social work from the University of Michigan. A first-time candidate for public office, Bolz works for the Nebraska Appleseed Center as the associate program director for the low-income economic opportunity program. She also teaches as an adjunct professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Nebraska Wesleyan.

Larry Zimmerman, a Republican, is a retired vice president of the Nebraska Farm Bureau. He holds a bachelor’s degree in biology and a master’s degree in secondary education from Truman State University in Missouri. He served on the Lower Platte South Natural Resources District board of directors for 12 years; the Moberly, Mo., school board for eight years; and the Moberly Junior College board for four years. He also has served in the U.S. Army.
