Biography

Lee Terry first assumed office in 1999, filling the position vacated by Jon Christensen.  Since 1999, Terry has aimed to “advance Nebraskans’ interests” through his terms in Congress.  In the 112th Congress, Terry served on the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, as well as served as the Vice Chairman of the Subcommittee of Communications and Technology.

According to his website, Terry is a strong advocate for making our country energy independent by utilizing our resources.  Terry also supports cutting government spending.

Prior to his appointment to Congress, the Omaha native worked as an attorney at his own private practice.  Terry also was a member of the Omaha City Council, serving as President for two years.

Biography

John Ewing is running against incumbent Lee Terry for the District 2 congressional seat.  Ewing has served as the Douglas County Treasurer since January of 2007, and was the first African-American to hold that position.  With Ewing serving as Treasurer, the Douglas County Treasurer’s Office was awarded the Achievement Award for their work with the reorganization of the Treasurer’s Office.

Ewing opposes turning Medicare into a voucher system, and supports ending overpayment to health insurance executives through Medicare.  Ewing would like to help Nebraska local school districts gain access to federal funding.

Prior to his selection as Douglas County Treasurer, Ewing, an Omaha native, was a former police officer for the Omaha Police Department, where he served as Deputy Chief of Police.  Also, Ewing is an Associate Minister at the Salem Baptist Church in Omaha.
