Al Davis is a native of Hyannis, Neb. (located in a southwestern county of District 43), Davis graduated from Hyannis High School in 1970 and attended Creighton University in Omaha. He graduated from the University of Denver with degrees in history and economics. Davis also has completed post-graduate study in international marketing. For the past 25 years, Davis has operated the family ranch. He has been married to Dottie since 1992. They own and run a yearling operation.

John Ravenscroft, of Nenzel, Neb. (located in the largest county in District 43), graduated from Valentine High School. He joined the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam.  He is married to Cheryl Adamson, the daughter of a former state senator. They have three sons. Ravenscroft and his family own and operate the Three Bar Cattle Company ranch, 65 miles southwest of Valentine, Neb. The Ravenscoft family has operated the ranch for 53 years.
