The recently closed Blockbuster at 1601 Q Street is no longer vacant.
Contractors have divided the large building into two separate ones. The Egg & I breakfast and lunch restaurant will open its second Lincoln location in one of the spaces in September, and a print shop will open next to it.
Electricians from Gregg Electric began work last Tuesday on a seven-week project that will get the former Blockbuster building ready for the restaurant. The video store closed in April, and only four remain in Lincoln.
The Egg & I, on the other hand, has been one of Lincoln’s most successful new restaurants. Its popular first Lincoln location opened on Feb. 14 in the Clocktower Shopping Center on 70th and A streets.
