Profile: Nathaniel Perlow

Nathaniel Perlow says his passion for soccer put him on the path to journalism.
The 21-year-old junior broadcasting major at the University of Nebraska- Lincoln developed a passion for the game at age five when he joined a soccer team coached by his father.
Even though Nathaniel stopped playing for the soccer team, his love for the sport has never stopped. Nathaniel knew he wanted to be a sports journalist for soccer while he attended high school at the Lethbridge Collegiate Institute in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada.
Nathaniel was born in Houston, Texas but moved to Canada when his parents received job offers to teach at the University of Lethbridge. Nathaniel returned to the United States for college because he was born here. After researching various universities, he chose UNL because of its prestigious journalism program.
During the summer, Nathaniel enjoyed hosting the 2010 FIFA World Cup through UNL’s Studio 201 online radio. He also covered the 2010 Special Olympics National Games. Nathaniel said both experiences were beneficial in showcasing real life experiences.
After he graduates, Nathaniel plans to have his own radio show or work for ESPN reporting soccer coverage.
In his spare time Nathaniel enjoys star gazing with his binoculars, learning about astronomy, and traveling. Nathaniel has been to 45 states in the in U.S., traveled to Germany, Austria, Canada, and has been to China twice.
