Growing up in Iowa, Caleb Dohmen always wanted to play football for Nebraska. Now, as a junior, he is one of the team’s biggest fans. Said Caleb, “I was always too small to play football and I have been a Huskers fan since he was a little boy.”
Sports has always been a passion for Caleb, who is a broadcasting major at UNL’s College of Journalism and Mass Communications. He plans to cover big-league sports for a major network someday, as an on-air personality. His ultimate job would be to work for ESPN’s SportsCenter.
Raised in the small town of Treynor, Iowa, about a half-hour’s drive east of Omaha, he gets back to the state from time to time. Last summer, Caleb worked on several farms near his family home, picking grapes, baling hay, planting trees and mowing lawns. Caleb was in charge of running the small errands.
He says he’s learned how to work hard and shrug off the callouses. He figures such habits will pay off in journalism. “Just being able to take any task that’s thrown my way will help me in the news business,” Caleb says.
